How to Be Good at Group Discussion

Discussing in groups of two or more people can be a great way to develop better social and emotional skills in a structured environment. If you have trouble with group discussion, no worries-- just read this article!

Steps

1.Prepare yourself: If you don't know your material ahead of time, you will have less to contribute and will understand the discussion less. Research some background information on your topic if you are given it ahead of time.

2.Be confident: If you aren't confident with yourself, you'll be scared of sharing your opinions. You need to trust yourself and others and you need to feel confident in your thoughts. Share your opinions- it doesn't matter what other people think.

3.Possess Good Listening Skills: Group discussion is weighing the pros and cons of a debatable topic. Some will say no,some will say yes. The group discussions are mostly a way to see if how people's views are different, and how they perceive things. It's also comparing answers to others. Be a Good Listener.

4.Conquer misunderstandings: Even though you are mainly talking, and announcing whatever comes to you to win over; it doesn't stop from heated words spilling. So take in all in stride and try to form a question about why such an argument bursts out from something misunderstood. Try to make sure that their anger simmered down, and make a light-humored topic to stay. It's a good way to diminish the tense atmosphere.

5.Decision: There is always something different for group discussions. Ranging arithmetic, charities, healthy eating, politics, sports, and virtue or value in today's products. Always Try to give the conclusion to the topic thrown and give a good decision. A Good Decision Making is always appreciated.

Tips

  • Never laugh at anyone's opinion
  • Be sure of what you say. Listen!
  • Do not try to formulate your next comment while    someone is still presenting his input.
  • Listen with an open mind.
  • Use facts to support your opinions.
  • If you are having trouble thinking of things to add to the discussion, think of the 5 W's and How: who are you discussing? What is important about the topic? Where did the topic originate or take place? When did the event occur? Why is this topic important to society? How can things be improved?
  • If people agree with you it's good if not do not force them but politely tell them to think over your opinion too.
  • If there are disagreements to your thought, don't object, only interject when they misplaced or misheard anything.
  • Do NOT interrupt. Wait for others to finish
  • Stay impartial if you are leading the discussion.

Warnings

  • Control enthusiasm.
  • Make sure you have your fair share of ideas, don't go hogging the spotlight just because you want to get noticed. It's better to think things over before you say anything; blow their mind away with a topic unknown, and if there is any questions, tell them about what you learn so they learn also. No one said you have to restrict your imagination, bend the rules of going over-board for a while.
  • Do not interrupt, it's a portrayal of disrespect and it reflects on the members of the group, they will criticize you based on your actions.

How to make Effective Resume

RESUME
Resume is normally a concise one-page summary that describes an individual's education, employment history, awards, biographical information, and other accomplishments. It is intended to focus and highlight just the main strengths of the individual, and demonstrate fitness for the particular post.

Building an effective Resume

A job resume is meant to make an individual stand out from other applicants. Thus, it has to be concise, original, specific and related to the post in question. It is in the applicant's interest to change the Resume from one job application to another to tailor it to the needs of the specific post. All resumes should contain this following basic information that can be adapted accordingly:
  •          Name (includes your full name and surname)
  •       Address (your permanent address plus any other temporary residence stating the dates you will be in each)
  •       Contact Phone Number (your mobile phone number plus your number in each address)
  •       Email Id ( need not be a funky id should be a professional one)
  •         Professional/Career Objective/Goal (this should be related to the post you are applying for and should include skills which you have acquired)
  •         Educational Attainment / Qualifications (the schools/universities you went to, along with the dates and the qualifications obtained from each)
  •         Other significant courses (any extra courses that you might have taken, or seminars you have attended)
  • Projects Undertaken ( Name, Duration, Language/Platform used + brief description)
  • Trainings Attended (Name of organization, Duration, skill set & role)
  • Other skills / Extra curricular activities (includes things like: active membership at school & college level, strengths & weaknesses)
  • Personal Details ( Father’s name, DOB, Permanent address, Languages Known, Hobbies & Interests
IMPORTANT
  •          The resume should be kept as clean and plain as possible to give off a professional semblance. Fancy decorative paper or fonts should be avoided. The resume is not the place to be flashy.
  •        The resume should be proofread and kept as up to date as possible.
  •         Although it is in ones interest to have a winning resume, exaggerating is not tolerated and results in the opposite of the desired effect.

how to make Effective Power Point Presentation Construction

  •  Limit the information on the slide to a single point or idea --- no more than 5 lines. Keepslides simple with plenty of open space.
  •  Use action words to reinforce ideas and phrases rather than complete sentences.
  • Use “powerful” titles that communicate the point of the slide, not just its contents
  • Use contrasting colors for text and backgrounds. Most slides that will be projected using an LCD projector look best using a dark blue background and white text. Yellow text can be used for emphasis.
  • Avoid ALL CAPS, or use them for the Title only.
  •  Use capital and lower-case letters for body text.
  •  DO NOT USE ALL CAPS FOR BODY TEXT.
  •  DO NOT USE UNDERLINES. Both are very distracting and difficult to read.
  •  For data presentation, use
  •  Bar charts to compare data;
  •  Line graphs to show trends;
  •  Box charts to illustrate makeup or organizations or processes;
  •  Pie charts to emphasize the relationship of parts to the whole; and
  •  Photographs to illustrate realism.
  •  Use landscape orientation.
  •  Use a san-serif font such as Arial, Arial Rounded, Helvetica or Tahoma.
  •  Use the Font Sizes and Colors appropriate to the size of the room you will be speaking in:

For a large room:
o Titles: 38 – 44 pt., Yellow or White;
o Subtitles: 22 – 36pt., White or another light color; and
o Body Text: 26 – 34pt., White or another light color.
o Figure labels, captions: 20 – 24 pt., White
For a smaller to medium-sized room:
o Titles: 28 - 36 pt., Yellow or White
o Subtitles: 20 – 24 pt., Yellow or White
o Body Text: 18 – 20 pt., White or another light color
o Figure labels, captions: 16 -18 pt., White
• Do not put your company name or logo on your slides.
• Credit the sources of any statistics or other data you use.
GOOD SLIDE CHRACTERISTICS

  • Simplicity
  • Strong color contrast
  • Big
  • Consistent
  • No more than six lines
  • large, readable type

BAD SLIDE CHARACTERISTICS
Slides become difficult to read when you try to cover too much material on one slide
Text that is too small or a font color that does not provide enough contrast from the background will not project clearly.
ALSO, BODY TEXT IN ALL CAPS IS MORE DIFFICULT TO READ THAN CAP AND LOWERCASE
OR INITIAL CAP BODY TEXT.
The use of underline for emphasis can crowd line spacing and make your material difficult to read.
It is better to use color for emphasis.
Using no more than six lines on a slide with no more than six words per line is recommended. Plenty of open space around words is needed for slides to be clearly legible when projected on a screen.
Simplicity and conciseness are keys to good slides.
Remember; do not put company names or logos on your slides!
